| Description | Description: Hope Theater is a ministry provided through Hope Springs for the homeless and low income community of Lexington. The event is held at Hope Springs approximately every other month. First, we provide transportation through our vans to transport individuals to Hope Springs for fun and fellowship. Our volunteers prepare and bring food in and provide our guests with a nice meal. After the meal, we show a movie and serve popcorn using our very own popcorn machine. Following the movie, we take them back. Why Have Hope Theater? The purpose of Hope Theater is two-fold. First, we want to demonstrate to these individuals that the Church can be a fun place. Second, and most importantly we want to show them the love of Christ. Hope Theater is the first of a series of stepping stones to a deeper relationship with Christ. Our goal is to first welcome them in a loving and practical way, then introduce them to our various other ministries. We invite them to Celebrate Recovery, the Laundry Ministry, and to service on Sunday. Details: Hope Theatre takes place on Saturdays several times each year. The set-up is typically done on Friday night following Celebrate Recover or early Saturday morning. Volunteers who will be helping to set up Saturday will need to be at Church by 9:30 a.m. The vans leave the Church at about 10:15 to begin picking our guests up. We serve lunch at 11:30 and show the movie at 12:30. The movies typically last two hours. When the movie is over the drivers will take our guests back. Our clean-up crew will need to be there when the movie is over to get the Church back in order. Volunteers Needed: (usually one person serves in more than one area): • Pass our fliers prior to the event-4 • Pray/eat with guests-2-4 • Van Drivers-2 • Greeters-1-2 • Van Riders-2 • Popcorn Poppers/Servers-2 • Set-up Crew-4 • Sound Booth Operator-1-2 • Clean-up Crew-5 • Servers-4-5 • Childcare (as needed) Food Needed: The menu changes with each Hope Theater. Unfortunately, we do not have the privilege of knowing how many people we will be serving. We usually plan for 70 people. We have had as few as 50 and as many as 120. Believe it or not we have NEVER run out of food. God is so good. Even though we don’t have a guest list, He does! |
